One of the most destructive storms in U.S. history,
Hurricane Ike made landfall in Galveston, Texas, on September 13, 2008. Soon after, Texas Sea Grant personnel began assisting with damage assessment and recovery efforts. Using their knowledge of the local area, Coastal and Marine Resource Agents helped locate, tag and GIS map commercial vessels and pleasure craft stranded far inland, aiding boat owners and insurance adjusters. In the process, the agents also photographed many images of destruction and cleanup efforts. The link below goes to a representative sample of images taken by Terrie Looney, Exension Agent for Chambers and Jefferson Counties; her husband, Larry Looney; and Rhonda Cummins, Extension Agent for Calhoun County, who provided assistance in the affected counties.
