Pequegnat, W. E. et al. 1983. The ecological communities of the continental slope and adjacent regimes of the northern Gulf of Mexico. U.S. Department of the Interior Minerals Management Services contract AA851-CT-1-12.

This report analyzes the distrubional patterns of fishes, echinoderms, crustaceans and other deep-sea bottom-dwelling fauna in the northern Gulf of Mexico. The area of coverage is at 150-3850 m from north of the 25th parallel and west of the eastern wall of the DeSoto Canyon. The work describes faunal zones and their characteristic components, along with the geological, physicochemical and biological bases for these zones. The authors suggest potential feeding group dynamics in these zones. Maps of distribution and line drawings are provided for common species. An extensive appendix provides underwater black and white photographs of many species and the habitats in which they live.
