Marine Science Institute hosting Texas Bays and Estuaries Meeting April 21-22

PORT ARANSAS, TX — The early registration deadline for the upcoming Texas Bays and Estuaries Meeting is April 8.

The meeting will be held at The University of Texas at Austin Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas April 21-22.

The meeting, a continuation of the informal meetings held at UTMSI in the 1990s, will focus on research being done in the bays, estuaries, and nearshore Gulf of Mexico. It provides an opportunity for Texas scientists working in the coastal zone to share information, results and insights into the diverse coastal environment.

The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, April 21, at the UTMSI Visitor’s Center auditorium.

Andrew Sansom from the River Systems Institute at Texas State University is scheduled to deliver a keynote address Thursday morning. Presentations will continue until 4:30 p.m., followed by poster sessions at the Plantation Suites in Port Aransas from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. that coincide with a catered barbecue dinner.

A special morning session on April 22 will focus on “Status of Southern Flounder in Texas: Exploration of Future Needs.”

More information, including hotel, information about UTMSI, directions, and a downloadable meeting registration form, is available by following the link from the UTMSI web page at www.utmsi.utexas.edu.
